Ingredients
1 large can of crushed tomatoes
1 large can of diced tomatoes
1 regular-sized can of fire-roasted garlic tomatoes
1 regular-sized can of chili-ready tomatoes
1 can of chili-ready beans (keep the sauce)
1 can of mild green chilies (small or large)
1 can of corn (drained)
2 packets of chili seasoning mix
1 ½ to 2 pounds of ground beef
⅓ cup of sugar
Soy sauce (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Base
1. Add all canned ingredients (crushed tomatoes, diced tomatoes, fire-roasted garlic tomatoes, chili-ready tomatoes, chili-ready beans, green chilies, and corn) into your crockpot.
2. Stir in 1 packet of chili seasoning and ⅓ cup of sugar.
3. Fill one of the empty tomato cans halfway with water. Pour this into the crockpot, using the water to rinse out the remaining sauce from all the cans.
Step 2: Set It and Forget It
1. Turn the crockpot to HIGH and let it cook for 6 hours.
Step 3: Cook the Ground Beef
1. Crumble the ground beef into a skillet and cook on the stovetop.
2. Season as desired, add the second packet of chili seasoning, and drizzle some soy sauce for an extra kick of flavor (optional).
3. Cook the beef until it’s mostly done but not fully browned—it will finish cooking in the crockpot.
4. Drain the beef (no need to rinse; keep those delicious seasonings!).
Step 4: Combine and Simmer
1. Add the cooked ground beef to the crockpot.
2. Stir everything together and let it continue cooking until the flavors are fully melded.
