    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

    • Only 4 simple ingredients
    • Easy to prepare in under 15 minutes
    • One-pan, mess-free cleanup
    • Perfect for busy weeknights
    • Budget-friendly family meal
    • Naturally hearty and filling
    • Great for oven baking or grilling
    • Easy to customize with your favorite vegetables

    Ingredients

    • 1½ pounds ground beef (80–85% lean)
    • 1½ pounds russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, diced
    • 3 large carrots, peeled and sliced
    • 1 packet (1 ounce) dry onion soup mix

How to Make Ground Beef Foil Packets

    Step 1: Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut four large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil. If using regular foil, double each sheet to prevent tearing.

    Step 2: Season the Vegetables

Combine the diced potatoes and sliced carrots in a large bowl. Sprinkle half of the onion soup mix over the vegetables and toss until evenly coated.

    Step 3: Prepare the Beef

In another bowl, gently mix the remaining onion soup mix into the ground beef. Divide the beef into four equal portions and shape each into a thick oval or round patty.

Step 4: Assemble the Foil Packs

Place an equal portion of the potatoes and carrots in the center of each foil sheet. Top each vegetable pile with a seasoned beef patty.

Fold the foil tightly around the ingredients, sealing all edges while leaving a little room inside for steam to circulate.

    Step 5: Bake

Arrange the foil packets on a baking sheet and bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender and the beef reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Allow the packets to rest for 5 minutes before carefully opening them to release the hot steam.

    Serving Suggestions

Serve each foil packet in a bowl with all of the flavorful cooking juices. Pair with:

    • Buttered dinner rolls
    • Garlic bread
    • Fresh green salad
    • Steamed green beans
    • Sweet peas
    • Sour cream or steak sauce for extra flavor

    Recipe Tips

    • Cut vegetables into evenly sized pieces for consistent cooking.
    • Heavy-duty foil works best for preventing leaks.
    • Add a tablespoon of beef broth to each packet for extra savory juices.
    • Let the packets rest before opening to keep the meat juicy.

    Easy Variations

    • Substitute ground turkey or ground chicken for a lighter version.
    • Add mushrooms, onions, or bell peppers for extra vegetables.
    • Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the hot beef before serving.
    • Cook on a medium grill for 25–30 minutes instead of baking.

    Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Reheat in the microwave or oven until thoroughly heated.
