Classic Homemade Salisbury Steak with Mushroom & Onion Gravy

This easy Salisbury steak recipe is the ultimate comfort food! Juicy beef patties smothered in a rich, savory mushroom and onion gravy it’s the perfect hearty dinner your family will love.

    Ingredients:

    For the Salisbury Steak Patties:

1 lb (450g) lean ground beef

    ½ cup breadcrumbs

    ¼ cup milk

    1 large egg

    1 small onion, finely diced

    1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

    ½ tsp garlic powder

Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Rich Mushroom Onion Gravy:

    1 Tbsp butter

    1 Tbsp olive oil

    1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced

    1 small onion, thinly sliced

    2 Tbsp all-purpose flour

2 cups beef broth (low sodium works great)

    1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

    Instructions:

    1. In a mixing bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk; let it soak for 2 minutes to soften.

    2. Add ground beef, egg, diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

    3. Shape the mixture into 4 oval-shaped beef patties.

    4. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, until browned. Remove them and set aside.

    5. In the same skillet, melt butter with olive oil. Sauté the sliced onions and mushrooms for about 5 minutes until soft and fragrant.

    6. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute to cook off the raw taste.

    7. Gradually whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until smooth and thickened.

    8. Return the beef patties to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken and the patties to cook through.

    Serving Tips:

Serve these juicy Salisbury steaks over creamy mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered noodles for a comforting, satisfying meal. Don’t forget to spoon plenty of that rich mushroom-onion gravy on top!
