    Apple Custard Cake

     

    This classic Apple Custard Cake is a delicious homemade dessert made with a buttery crust, silky vanilla pastry cream, and tender fresh apple slices. This traditional Spanish-style apple tart is perfect for family gatherings, afternoon coffee, or special celebrations.

    With its rich flavor, soft texture, and beautiful golden finish, this easy apple cake recipe is one of the best homemade desserts you can prepare. The combination of creamy custard and cinnamon-spiced apples creates a bakery-style treat everyone will love.

    Ingredients

    For the Crust:

    • 100 g sugar
    • 200 g butter
    • 300 g flour
    • 1 egg
    • 1½ apples, peeled and sliced into thin wedges
    • Ground cinnamon
    • Peach jam
    • Shredded coconut

    For the Pastry Cream:

    • 500 ml milk
    • 1½ tablespoons flour
    • 150 g sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    How to Make Apple Custard Cake

    Step 1: Prepare the Pastry Cream

    First, make the pastry cream. In a saucepan, add the milk, flour, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Place over medium heat and whisk continuously until the mixture thickens and boils for 1 minute.

    Remove from heat and allow it to cool completely.

    Step 2: Prepare the Crust

    On a clean countertop, combine the butter, sugar, flour, and egg. Mix gently with your hands until the ingredients come together. Do not over-kad—just combine.

    (You can also use store-bought puff pastry for a quicker version. If using puff pastry, pre-bake it for 15 minutes at 185°C / 365°F.)

    Step 3: Assemble the Tart

    Grease a tart pan and press the dough evenly across the bottom using your hands. Build up the edges and prick the base and sides with a fork to prevent rising during baking.

    Pour the cooled pastry cream over the crust.

    Arrange the thin apple slices neatly on top and sprinkle with ground cinnamon.

    Step 4: Bake

    Bake in a preheated oven at 185°C (365°F) for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

    Step 5: Final Touch

    Once baked, remove from the oven and brush the top with peach jam for shine and sweetness. Sprinkle with shredded coconut if desired.

    Serve warm or chilled.
