    Mexican Green Chile Fry Bread Stack Recipe

     

    Mexican Green Chile Fry Bread Stack Recipe

     

    Get ready to enjoy a flavor-packed, crispy-yet-fluffy Mexican Green Chile Fry Bread Stack loaded with seasoned ground beef, roasted green chile, creamy beans, and melty Oaxaca cheese. This indulgent Southwest-inspired dinner is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser!

     

    Ingredients:

    For the Homemade Fry Bread:

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 tbsp baking powder

    1/2 tsp salt

    3/4 cup warm water

    Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

    For the Southwest Toppings:

    1 lb ground beef

    1/2 tsp ground cumin

    Salt & black pepper to taste

    1 can pinto beans (or homemade refried beans), warmed

    1 cup shredded Oaxaca cheese (or mozzarella for a substitute)

    1 1/2 cups roasted green chile (chopped)

    1/2 medium onion, diced

    1–2 garlic cloves, minced

    Optional: diced tomatoes or jalapeños for heat and color

     

    Instructions:

    Step 1: Make the Fry Bread

    1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

    2. Gradually stir in warm water until a soft dough forms.

    3. Cover and let rest for 15 minutes.

    4. Divide dough into 4–6 equal portions and shape into flat disks.

    5. Heat oil to 350°F and fry each piece until golden and puffed, flipping once.

    6. Drain on paper towels and keep warm.

     

    Step 2: Cook the Green Chile Beef

    1. In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and drain any excess fat.

    2. Add onion and garlic; sauté until translucent and fragrant.

    3. Stir in chopped roasted green chile, cumin, salt, and pepper.

    4. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, letting the flavors blend.

     

    Step 3: Assemble the Stacks

    1. On each fry bread, layer warm pinto beans as the base.

    2. Sprinkle a handful of shredded Oaxaca cheese.

    3. Spoon the hot green chile beef mixture over the cheese.

    4. Top with more cheese, fresh diced tomatoes, or sliced jalapeños if desired.

    5. Serve hot and enjoy every spicy, savory bite!

     

    Pro Tip:

    For the ultimate crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside experience, warm your fry bread in a 300°F oven for 5 minutes before serving. Add a dollop of Mexican crema and crumbled cotija cheese for an extra flavorful finish!
