    Creamy Baked Meat and Potato Casserole Recipe

     

    This Creamy Baked Meat and Potato Casserole is the ultimate comfort food, combining layers of savory ground beef, tender potatoes, and a rich, cheesy cream sauce. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a potluck favorite, it’s hearty, flavorful, and easy to make. The golden, bubbly cheese topping adds a delicious finishing touch. Customize it by adding veggies like carrots or peas for extra texture and nutrients. This one-pan dish is a satisfying meal everyone will love!

    Ingredients:
    For the Meat Layer:

    1 lb (450 g) ground beef or lamb

    1 medium onion, finely chopped

    2 garlic cloves, minced

    1 tbsp olive oil

    1 tsp salt

    1/2 tsp black pepper

    1/2 tsp paprika

    1/2 tsp dried thyme or oregano

    2 tbsp tomato paste

    1/2 cup beef broth or water

    For the Potato Layer:

    4 large potatoes, peeled and sliced thinly

    1 1/2 cups heavy cream

    1/2 cup milk

    2 tbsp butter

    1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a blend)

    Salt and pepper, to taste

    Instructions:

    Prepare the Savory Meat Layer:

    Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    Add chopped onion and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.

    Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.

    Add ground beef or lamb and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.

    Mix in tomato paste, paprika, thyme, salt, pepper, and beef broth. Simmer for 5 minutes, then set aside.

    Prepare the Creamy Potato Layer:

    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    In a saucepan, gently heat heavy cream, milk, butter, salt, and pepper (do not boil).

    Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and layer half the sliced potatoes evenly. Pour half the cream mixture over the potatoes.

    Layer and Assemble:

    Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly over the potato layer.

    Top with the remaining potatoes and pour over the rest of the cream mixture.

    Sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top.

    Bake to Perfection:

    Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

    Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the potatoes are tender, and the cheese is bubbly and golden.

    Serve and Enjoy!

    Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Perfect for a cozy dinner!

    Tips for the Best Casserole:

    Add veggies like peas or carrots to the meat layer for a nutritional boost.
