This Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a delicious, homestyle meal packed with juicy ground beef patties, tender russet potatoes, and creamy cheddar cheese, all smothered in a rich homemade gravy. Perfect for a cozy family dinner, this easy oven-baked dish is sure to be a crowd-pleaser!

    Ingredients:

    For the Hamburger Patties:

    1 1/2 lbs ground beef

    1/2 tsp garlic powder

    1/2 tsp onion powder

    Salt and pepper to taste

    For the Gravy & Layers:

    2 cups milk, divided

    1/4 cup all-purpose flour

4-5 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced

    1 medium onion, thinly sliced

    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

    Instructions:

    Prepare the Patties:

    1. Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

    2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into six patties.

    3. In a skillet over medium heat, sear the patties on both sides until browned (they will finish cooking in the oven). Set aside.

    Make the Homemade Gravy:

    4. In the same skillet, whisk 1 cup of milk with flour until smooth.

    5. Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of milk, whisking continuously until thickened.

    6. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from heat.

    Assemble & Bake:

    7. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the potatoes and half of the onions.

    8. Arrange the browned hamburger patties on top.

    9. Add the remaining potatoes and onions, then pour the savory gravy evenly over the layers.

    10. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour (until the potatoes are fork-tender).

    11. Remove foil, sprinkle cheddar cheese on top, and bake for another 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.

    Serve & Enjoy!

Let it cool slightly, then dig into this cheesy, beefy, and comforting Amish-style casserole! Perfect for a family dinner, potluck, or meal prep.
