3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tbsp tomato paste

1 1/2 lb ground beef (lean)

1 tsp ground cumin

1 1/2 tbsp chili powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp paprika

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

1 (15-oz) can kidney beans, drained

1 (28-oz) can crushed tomatoes

Kosher salt, to taste

 

Optional Chili Toppings:

Shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions:

1. Sauté the aromatics: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and tomato paste and cook for another minute.

2. Brown the beef: Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat.
