Sizzling Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions

Ingredients for Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions
(Serves 4)
1 lb Italian sausage (chicken, or turkey sausage for a lighter option)
2 tbsp olive oil
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced
1 large onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a spicy kick)
Salt and black pepper to taste
¼ cup chicken broth (for extra flavor and moisture)
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Optional: Hoagie rolls or crusty Italian bread for serving
Instructions:
1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
2. Add the Italian sausages and brown them evenly on all sides (about 5–7 minutes). Remove and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized.
4. Stir in the garlic, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute.
5. Add chicken broth to deglaze the pan, then return the sausages to the skillet.
6. Cover and simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes until the sausages are cooked through and the flavors blend.
7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve hot as a main dish or in toasted hoagie rolls for a classic sausage sandwich.
