Recipe for Homemade Fried Donuts
Ingredients:
– 1 cup warm milk
– 1/4 cup sugar
– 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
– 2 large eggs, beaten
– 1/2 cup melted butter
– 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– Vegetable oil (for frying)
For the Glaze:
– 2 cups powdered sugar
– 1/4 cup milk
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Activate Yeast: Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit until frothy (around 5-10 minutes).
2. Make Dough: In a large bowl, mix the yeast mixture with eggs, melted butter, flour, and salt until a soft dough forms.
3. Knead: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
5. Shape Donuts: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a donut cutter or round cookie cutter to cut out donuts, and a smaller cutter for the holes.
6. Second Rise: Put the shaped donuts on a floured surface, cover, and let them rise until puffed up (around 30 minutes).
7. Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts in batches until golden brown on each side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
8. Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze. Dip or drizzle it over warm donuts. Enjoy!
