    Ingredients:

    For the Dumplings:

6 medium tart apples (like Granny Smith), peeled and cored

2 sheets puff pastry or pie dough

    1/2 cup granulated sugar

    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

6 teaspoons butter (1 per apple)

    For the Sweet Cinnamon Sauce:

    1 cup brown sugar

    1 cup water

    1/2 cup butter

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Optional Toppings:

    Powdered sugar for dusting

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

    Optional Additions:

Warm spices: A dash of nutmeg or cloves for extra flavor

Fillings: Add chopped pecans, walnuts, or raisins for texture

Caramel drizzle: Enhance the dessert with salted caramel

    Tips for Perfect Apple Dumplings

Choose tart apples: Granny Smith apples are firm and tangy, making them ideal.

Chill the pastry: Cold dough results in a perfectly flaky crust.

Even baking: Place dumplings on a wire rack inside the baking dish.

Baste for shine: Spoon the sauce over dumplings while baking for a glossy finish.

Serve warm: These are best enjoyed fresh from the oven!

    Instructions:

    1. Prep the Apples

Peel and core the apples, keeping them whole.

    2. Assemble the Dumplings

Roll out the dough and cut into squares large enough to wrap each apple.

In a bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon.

Place an apple in the center of each dough square, fill the core with 1 teaspoon of butter, and sprinkle generously with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Wrap the dough tightly around the apple, pinching the edges to seal.

    3. Make the Sauce

In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, and butter. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.

Remove from heat and mix in vanilla extract.

    4. Bake the Dumplings

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Arrange the dumplings in a baking dish and pour the sauce over them.

Bake for 35-40 minutes, basting occasionally, until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.

    5. Serve and Enjoy

Allow the dumplings to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a decadent dessert experience!
