Oven-Baked Beef and Onion Foil Packet Dinner

If you’re craving a simple, hearty beef dinner that practically cooks itself, this oven-baked beef and onion foil packet dinner is the answer. Made with just 5 wholesome ingredients, this easy recipe delivers tender steak, sweet caramelized onions, and perfectly cooked potatoes all wrapped up in a no-mess foil packet.

Why You’ll Love This Beef Foil Packet Recipe:

Only 5 ingredients simple and affordable

    Minimal prep & easy cleanup

Oven-baked comfort food without standing over the stove

Balanced meal with protein, vegetables, and potatoes

Perfect for busy weeknights, meal prep, or picky eaters

    Ingredients:

1½ pounds thinly sliced beef steak (sirloin or round work best)
2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
1½ pounds baby potatoes, halved (or diced into 1-inch pieces)
    3 tablespoons olive oil
2 teaspoons steak seasoning (or all-purpose seasoning blend)
Salt and black pepper, to taste (optional)
    Nonstick cooking spray (optional)

    Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil for easy cleanup.

Tear off 4 large sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil and lightly spray the centers if desired.

In a large bowl, toss the potatoes and onions with olive oil, steak seasoning, and optional salt and pepper.

Divide the onion and potato mixture evenly among the foil sheets.

Top each pile with an equal portion of thinly sliced beef, spreading it out slightly for even cooking.

Fold the foil tightly into sealed packets, leaving a little space inside for steam.

Place packets on the baking sheet and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until potatoes are fork-tender and beef is cooked through.

Carefully open one packet (watch the steam). If needed, reseal and bake an additional 5–10 minutes.

Rest for 3–5 minutes before serving.
Spoon the flavorful juices over the top.

    Variations & Tips:

Add bell peppers, carrots, or green beans for extra veggies

Swap olive oil for butter for richer flavor

Use sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes

Try taco seasoning and serve with salsa and cheese

Assemble packets ahead of time for easy meal prep
