Classic Stuffed Cabbage Rolls
These classic stuffed cabbage rolls are a timeless comfort food made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a flavorful filling of ground meat, rice, and onion, then gently simmered in tomato sauce. This hearty dish is nutritious, budget-friendly, and perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients:
1 large head of cabbage
1 lb ground meat (beef or turkey)
1 cup cooked rice
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
¼ cup tomato sauce
Water (for boiling and simmering)
Fresh parsley or dill, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
Carefully remove cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water for 30 seconds until soft and pliable. Drain and set aside.
In a large bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.
Lay one cabbage leaf flat on a clean surface. Add about ¼ cup of filling to the center.
Fold the bottom over the filling, tuck in the sides, and roll tightly into a neat roll.
Repeat with remaining cabbage leaves and filling.
Place the cabbage rolls in a large Dutch oven or saucepan.
Pour tomato sauce over the rolls and add enough water to just cover them.
Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 20–25 minutes.
Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley or dill.
