    Authentic Butter Chicken Recipe

     

    Butter Chicken, also known as Murgh Makhani, is a rich and creamy Indian curry that’s loved worldwide. With tender chicken pieces marinated in yogurt and spices, then simmered in a luscious butter and tomato cream sauce, this restaurant-style Butter Chicken is the ultimate comfort food. Perfect with naan, roti, or basmati rice!

     

    Ingredients:

     

    500g (1 lb) boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
    1 cup plain yogurt
    2 tbsp lemon juice
    1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
    1 tsp turmeric powder
    1 tsp cumin powder
    1 tsp garam masala
    1 tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
    Salt, to taste
    For the Butter Chicken Sauce:
    2 tbsp butter
    1 tbsp oil (optional)
    1 large onion, finely chopped
    2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
    2 large tomatoes, pureed (or 1 cup tomato puree)
    1 tsp cumin powder
    1 tsp coriander powder
    1 tsp garam masala
    1 tsp red chili powder
    1 cup heavy cream
    1 tsp sugar (optional)
    Salt, to taste
    Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish

     

    Instructions:

     

    Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
    In a bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, ginger-garlic paste, and all marinade spices.

    Coat the chicken pieces well, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (overnight gives the best flavor).

    Step 2: Cook the Chicken
    Heat a little oil or butter in a pan over medium-high heat.

    Sear the marinated chicken until golden brown on all sides (it doesn’t need to be fully cooked). Set aside.

    Step 3: Make the Butter Chicken Curry Sauce
    In the same pan, melt butter with a splash of oil. Add onions and sauté until golden.

    Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook until fragrant.

    Add tomato puree and cook until the oil separates (about 10 minutes).

    Mix in cumin, coriander, red chili powder, and garam masala. Cook 2-3 minutes.

    Lower heat, stir in cream, and let the curry simmer for 5-7 minutes. Add sugar if you like a slightly sweet touch.

    Return the chicken to the pan and let it finish cooking in the creamy butter sauce.

     

    Serving Suggestions:

    Serve your creamy Butter Chicken curry with warm garlic naan, steamed basmati rice, or fluffy roti. Garnish with fresh cilantro for the perfect finishing touch.
