Ingredients:
– 1 cup fresh spinach, finely chopped
– 8 ounces (225g) mozzarella cheese sticks
– 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
– 2 large eggs, beaten
– 1 cup breadcrumbs
– 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– Salt and pepper, to taste
– Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Mozzarella: Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks into thirds to create bite-sized pieces. Set them aside.
2. Set Up Coating Stations: Arrange three bowls—place flour in the first, beaten eggs in the second, and in the third, mix breadcrumbs with dried basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
3. Coat the Cheese: Begin by dredging each mozzarella piece in flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip it into the beaten eggs, then thoroughly coat it with the seasoned breadcrumbs.
4. Add Spinach: Press a small amount of chopped spinach onto each coated mozzarella stick, ensuring the spinach adheres well to the breadcrumb coating.
5. Fry the Mozzarella Sticks: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the spinach-coated mozzarella sticks in batches, cooking each side for 2-3 minutes until they turn golden brown and crispy. Transfer them to paper towels to drain any excess oil.
6. Serve Hot: Serve your spinach mozzarella sticks warm, with your favorite dipping sauce on the side.
