Savory Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy over Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steak Patties:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
1/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Onion Gravy:
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
For the Mashed Potatoes:
4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
1/2 cup milk
2 tbsp butter
Salt to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes:
Boil the potatoes until fork-tender (about 15–20 minutes).
Drain and mash with butter, milk, and salt until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
2. Make the Steak Patties:
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
Shape into oval patties and sear in a hot skillet until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
3. Cook the Onion Gravy:
In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until soft and golden.
Sprinkle in flour and stir to form a roux.
Gradually add beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring constantly until thickened.
Season with salt and pepper, then return the steak patties to the skillet and simmer in the gravy for 5–10 minutes.
4. Serve:
Spoon mashed potatoes onto a plate, top with a Salisbury steak patty, and ladle on generous helpings of onion gravy.
