    Savory Ground Meat and Zucchini Gratin Recipe

     

    This Ground Meat and Zucchini Gratin is a flavorful and hearty dish perfect for weeknight dinners. Layers of tender zucchini, seasoned ground meat, and creamy tomato sauce are topped with melty mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. It’s a low-carb, gluten-free option that’s both nutritious and satisfying. Ready in just 45 minutes, it’s ideal for busy families or meal prepping. Garnished with fresh parsley, this baked dish is as comforting as it is delicious!

     

    Ingredients:

    1 lb (450g) ground beef or turkey lean and flavorful.

    2 medium zucchinis sliced thin for tender layers.

    1 medium onion, finely chopped.

    2 garlic cloves, minced adds aromatic depth.

    1 teaspoon dried oregano for that Mediterranean touch.

    1 teaspoon paprika smoky flavor enhancer.

    ½ teaspoon salt.

    ½ teaspoon black pepper for seasoning balance.

    1 cup (240ml) tomato sauce rich and tangy base.

    ½ cup (120ml) heavy cream for creaminess.

    1 cup (100g) grated mozzarella cheese melty goodness.

    ½ cup (50g) grated Parmesan cheese nutty and savory.

    2 tablespoons olive oil for sautéing.

    Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish.

     

    Directions:

    1. Preheat the oven:
    Set your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.

    2. Cook the ground meat:
    Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onion and garlic until fragrant. Add the ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart as it cooks. Stir in oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the tomato sauce, cooking for 3–5 minutes. Set aside.

    3. Prepare the zucchini:
    Layer half the zucchini slices in the bottom of the baking dish, sprinkling lightly with salt for flavor.

    4. Assemble the gratin:
    Spread half the meat mixture over the zucchini layer. Repeat with the remaining zucchini and meat. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the layers. Top with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

    5. Bake:
    Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown.

    6. Garnish and serve:
    Let the dish cool slightly. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve warm as a hearty main course or a side dish.

    Use grass-fed beef or lean turkey for a healthier option.

    Experiment with herbs like thyme or basil for extra flavor.

    Serve with a fresh side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
