Savory Crockpot Gravy Steak with Veggies & Mushrooms
This hearty slow cooker dinner was a delicious surprise from a “throw-it-in-and-hope” kind of day! Using gravy steaks, a mix of aging vegetables, and a block of frozen turkey stock, this one-pot wonder turned into a flavorful and cozy dish.
Ingredients:
Raw gravy steaks
1 bell pepper (chopped)
1 onion (sliced)
2–3 stalks celery (chopped)
1 packet brown gravy mix
1 block of frozen turkey stock
Fresh mushrooms (sliced)
1.5 cups gravy from the pot
Whole wheat flour (for thickening)
Instructions:
1. Season the gravy steak generously with your favorite spices.
2. Add steak to the crockpot along with the chopped bell pepper, onion, and celery.
3. Sprinkle a packet of brown gravy mix evenly over everything.
4. Place a frozen block of turkey stock on top.
5. Set the crockpot on low and cook for several hours until the meat is tender.
6. Before serving, stir in fresh mushrooms and let them warm through.
7. For a thicker gravy, remove about 1.5 cups of the broth, whisk in a bit of whole wheat flour, bring to a slow boil on the stove, then return it to the crockpot. Let sit on warm for another 30 minutes.
Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or enjoy with crusty bread for a satisfying, comforting meal!
