    Crispy-Tender Potato Gratin Recipe

    The easiest oven-baked gratin with crispy edges, a soft melt-in-your-mouth center, and rich cheesy flavor. Perfect for family dinners, holidays, or cozy comfort-food nights!

    Crispy-Tender Potato Gratin (Serves 4)
    Prep time: 20 min
    Cook time: 55–65 min

    Ingredients:

    1 kg potatoes (skin-on Yukon Gold or Charlotte)
    40 g melted butter
    2 garlic cloves, grated
    20 cl heavy cream
    150 g grated cheese (mozzarella, raclette, or Emmental)
    1 tsp salt
    ½ tsp pepper
    Fresh parsley, chopped

    Instructions:

    Prepare the Potatoes
    Wash potatoes well and leave the skins on.
    Slice very thinly (3–4 mm) with a knife or mandoline.
    Place slices in a large bowl.

    Season Everything
    Pour melted butter over the slices.
    Add salt and pepper.
    Toss well to coat each piece.

    Add the Garlic
    Grate or press the garlic cloves.
    Mix with the potatoes so every slice absorbs the flavor.

    Arrange in the Dish
    Preheat oven to 190°C / 375°F (convection).
    Place the potato slices vertically in a round baking dish, creating a tight circular pattern.

    Pour the Cream
    Pour heavy cream gently over the potatoes so it trickles into the gaps.

    Top with Cheese
    Sprinkle the grated cheese evenly avoid pressing it so the top gets crispy.

    Bake
    Bake for 40 minutes.
    Then continue for 15–25 min until golden, crisp on top, and tender inside.
    A knife should slide in easily.

    Finish & Serve
    Let rest 5 minutes.
    Top with chopped parsley for color and freshness.
