    Classic Shepherd’s Pie Recipe

     

    This Classic Shepherd’s Pie is a comforting and hearty dish perfect for family dinners. With a savory ground beef filling, loaded with peas, carrots, and a flavorful beef broth, it’s a meal everyone will love. Topped with creamy mashed potatoes and optional shredded cheddar cheese, it’s a cheesy delight. Baked until golden and bubbly, this dish offers the perfect balance of rich flavors and textures. A true family favorite, this recipe is quick, satisfying, and great for meal prep!

    Ingredients:

    1 lb ground beef (or ground lamb for traditional Shepherd’s Pie)

    1 onion, chopped

    2 cloves garlic, minced

    1 cup frozen peas and carrots (for a quick veggie boost)

    1 cup beef broth (or chicken broth for a lighter version)

    1 tablespoon tomato paste

    1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (adds rich flavor)

    1 teaspoon dried thyme

    Salt and pepper, to taste

    4 cups mashed potatoes (homemade mashed potatoes or store-bought)

    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for extra cheesy goodness)

    Instructions:

    1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease your baking dish with butter or oil.

    2. In a large skillet, cook 1 lb ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

    3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.

    4. Stir in 1 cup frozen peas and carrots, 1 cup beef broth, 1 tablespoon tomato paste, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens to a savory filling.

    5. Transfer the beef and veggie mixture to the prepared baking dish. Spread 4 cups mashed potatoes evenly over the top, creating a smooth layer.

    6. For an extra indulgent touch, sprinkle 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes (optional but highly recommended).

    7. Bake the Shepherd’s Pie in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

    8. Let the Shepherd’s Pie cool for a few minutes before serving and enjoy your comforting family favorite!
