Classic Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken and Dumplings is a timeless comfort food favorite made with tender, slow-simmered chicken and soft, fluffy dumplings cooked right in a rich, savory broth. This hearty homemade dish is warm, filling, and perfect for family dinners, chilly evenings, or whenever you crave classic Southern comfort.
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
1 whole chicken or 3–4 lbs bone-in chicken pieces
8 cups water or chicken broth
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
2 tablespoons butter
For the Dumplings:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup milk
2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions:
In a large pot or Dutch oven, add the chicken, water or broth, salt, pepper, and poultry seasoning.
Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 45–60 minutes until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.
Remove the chicken, shred or chop the meat, and discard skin and bones. Return the chicken to the pot.
Stir in butter and adjust seasoning if needed.
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add milk and melted butter, stirring just until combined.
Drop spoonfuls of dumpling dough into the gently simmering broth.
Cover and cook for 15–20 minutes without lifting the lid, until dumplings are fluffy and cooked through.
Serve hot and enjoy!
