Amish-Style Oven Baked Butter Roasted Potatoes

Why This Amish Potato Recipe Is So Special

This old-fashioned Amish butter roasted potatoes recipe was shared with me years ago by a kind Amish lady at a local farmers’ market and once you try it, you’ll never roast potatoes any other way. Using just four simple pantry ingredients, this method delivers crispy roasted potatoes on the outside and soft, fluffy centers every single time.
The secret isn’t fancy seasoning—it’s the hot oven, preheated stoneware dish, and generous butter coating. This traditional technique creates that irresistible golden crust while keeping the inside tender and comforting, just like classic farmhouse cooking.
Perfect for weeknight dinners, Sunday meals, or holiday tables, these potatoes pair beautifully with almost any main dish.

    Servings: 4
    Prep Time: 10 minutes
    Cook Time: 40–45 minutes
    Total Time: About 55 minutes

    Ingredients:

2 pounds russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, scrubbed and cut into 1-inch chunks
⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for greasing the dish)
1 teaspoon kosher salt (adjust to taste)
    1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes

    Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a large stoneware or ceramic baking dish (9×13 inches) in the oven to heat—this is the key to extra-crispy roasted potatoes.

While the dish heats, wash the potatoes thoroughly and cut them into even chunks. Leave the skins on for added texture, flavor, and nutrients.

Melt the butter and stir in the salt and dried parsley so the seasoning is evenly distributed.

Carefully remove the hot baking dish from the oven. Lightly grease it with butter.

Add the potatoes in a single layer, then pour the seasoned melted butter over them. Gently toss to coat.

Spread the potatoes evenly, making sure they have space to roast rather than steam.

Roast undisturbed for 25 minutes to allow the bottoms to crisp.

Remove from the oven, flip the potatoes, and return to the oven for another 15–20 minutes, until golden brown and fork-tender.

Taste and adjust salt if needed. Sprinkle with extra parsley if desired.

Serve hot, straight from the dish, with all that delicious melted butter.

    Benefits of Butter Roasted Potatoes:

Simple, real ingredients no preservatives or processed additives

Naturally gluten-free, making it suitable for many diets

High in potassium and fiber (thanks to keeping the skins on)

Comforting and filling, perfect for family meals

Budget-friendly side dish using pantry staples

Versatile pairs with chicken, beef or vegetarian mains

    Tips & Variations:

Use Yukon Gold potatoes for a creamier interior or russet potatoes for extra-crispy edges

Cut potatoes slightly smaller for extra crunch

Increase butter to ½ cup for a richer, more indulgent flavor

Leftovers reheat beautifully in a skillet and make excellent breakfast potatoes
