For the Mini Burger Steaks
1 lb lean ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
1 large egg
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (alcohol-free)
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp vegetable oil or butter (for cooking)
For the Mushroom Gravy
1 tbsp butter
8 oz mushrooms, sliced (white button or cremini)
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups beef broth (low sodium recommended)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions:
In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef (or turkey), chopped onion, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix just until combined overmixing can make the patties tough.
Divide the mixture into 6–8 equal portions and shape into small, flattened patties about ½ inch thick.
Heat oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 3–4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside, keeping warm.
In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add mushrooms and sauté for 4–5 minutes until softened and lightly golden. Sprinkle in the flour and stir for 1 minute to cook off the raw taste.
