How to Make Instant Pot Broccoli Cheddar Soup (Step-by-Step)

Turn the Instant Pot to Sauté. Add butter, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes, until softened and fragrant.

Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir constantly for 1–2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth and stir to combine. Add the fresh broccoli florets.

Secure the lid and set the Instant Pot to Manual/Pressure Cook on high pressure for 2 minutes. Perform a quick release when finished.

Remove the lid and switch back to Sauté. Add the milk and shredded sharp cheddar cheese, stirring until the cheese melts and the soup becomes creamy and thick.

Blend (Optional for Creamier Texture)
Use an immersion blender to partially or fully blend the soup to your desired consistency. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg if desired.

Top with extra shredded cheddar cheese and serve hot!
