Ultimate Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes
Craving rich, creamy, and cheesy scalloped potatoes? This easy homemade baked potato casserole is loaded with melty cheddar cheese and a velvety sauce, making it the perfect holiday side dish, weeknight comfort meal, or potluck favorite!
Ingredients:
4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp flour
1 ½ cups milk
1 tsp salt
1 dash cayenne pepper
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
½ cup grated cheese (for topping)
Instructions:
Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then whisk in flour. Let cook for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in cold milk, stirring constantly. Add salt & cayenne pepper, cooking until thick and smooth.
Reduce heat and stir in cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased 1-quart baking dish.
Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Repeat with remaining layers.
Sprinkle extra cheese on top and dust with paprika for color.
Bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour until bubbly and golden brown.
