Serve it with rice or noodles for a comforting, restaurant-quality meal at home. With simple ingredients and easy preparation, this dish is sure to become a family favorite!

Ingredients:

For the slow cook:

500 g diced beef

1 onion, chopped

1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced

4 cloves garlic, minced

6 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce

4 tbsp oyster sauce

4 tbsp honey

4 tbsp tomato ketchup

2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder

1/2 tsp dried chili flakes (optional)

To finish:

3 tbsp cornflour (cornstarch)

1 broccoli head, chopped into bite-sized florets

Instructions:

1. Prepare the slow cooker:
Add the beef, onion, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, ketchup, Chinese five-spice, and chili flakes (if using) to the slow cooker. Mix well to coat the beef.

2. Cook low and slow:

Set the slow cooker to HIGH for 4-5 hours or LOW for 6-7 hours.

Stir occasionally if possible.

3. Thicken the sauce and add broccoli:

Thirty minutes before the end of cooking time, mix cornflour with water to create a slurry and stir it into the sauce to thicken.

Add broccoli florets at this stage or steam them separately for a fresher look and texture (see notes).

4. Serve and enjoy:

Serve hot over steamed rice, noodles, or alongside quick egg-fried rice for a delicious and comforting Chinese-inspired meal.

Notes & Tips

Frozen veggies? Swap fresh onion, garlic, ginger, or broccoli for frozen to save prep time.

Extra flavor: Marinate the beef with the sauce ingredients overnight for deeper flavor.

Thickening tip: If the sauce is too runny, add more cornflour slurry to your desired consistency.

Broccoli options: To avoid dull-looking broccoli, steam or boil it for 4 minutes, drain, and toss it with the beef just before serving.

Serving Suggestions:
Pair this tender beef and broccoli with fluffy jasmine rice or stir-fried noodles for an authentic Chinese restaurant-style experience.
