Southern Fried Chicken Steak with Gravy Recipe
Ingredients:
1 cup buttermilk
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Gravy
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup pan drippings (from frying chicken)
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups chicken broth
Instructions :
Marinate Chicken
Place chicken breasts in a bowl, pour buttermilk over them, and let them marinate for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.
Prepare Dredge Mixtur
In a shallow dish, combine flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Dredge Chicken
Remove chicken from buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, pressing the coating onto the chicken.
Heat Oil
In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
Fry Chicken
Fry chicken for 5-7 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
Make Gravy
In the same skillet, leave about 1/4 cup of pan drippings. Add flour and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it forms a paste.
Add Broth
Gradually whisk in chicken broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook, stirring continuously, until the gravy thickens. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve
Pour gravy over the fried chicken steaks and serve hot.
Enjoy your Southern fried chicken steak with gravy!
