Ingredients:
2 pounds ground beef
1 large onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans (28 ounces each) crushed tomatoes
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
1 tablespoon sugar
2 teaspoons dried basil
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Salt and pepper to taste
1 pound spaghetti
Directions:
1. Brown the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until fully browned. Drain any excess fat.
2. Sauté the Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.
3. Assemble in the Slow Cooker: Transfer the beef mixture to your slow cooker. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, basil, oregano, parsley, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
4. Cook Low and Slow: Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours. The slow cooking allows the flavors to blend beautifully.
5. Prepare the Spaghetti: About 20-30 minutes before serving, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain well.
6. Combine and Serve: Add the cooked spaghetti to the slow cooker and stir until the sauce evenly coats the pasta. Let it sit for 10 minutes to soak up the flavors before serving.
7. Serve Hot: Dish up this hearty spaghetti for a crowd-pleasing meal at your next church supper.
Tips & Variations:
Vegetarian Option: Substitute the ground beef with diced vegetables (like zucchini, mushrooms, and bell peppers) or plant-based meat alternatives.
Rich Flavor: Add a splash of heavy cream or grated Parmesan cheese just before serving.
Spice It Up: For extra heat, increase the red pepper flakes or add a dash of hot sauce.
Gluten-Free: Use gluten-free pasta for a celiac-friendly version.
