If you love French onion soup, you’ll adore this crispy, cheesy, and caramelized French Onion Tart! Made with flaky puff pastry, sweet Vidalia onions, and melty Gruyère cheese, this savory tart is perfect for holiday gatherings, brunch, or a cozy appetizer.

    Ingredients:

    1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
2 large Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
    2 tbsp unsalted butter
    ½ cup beef stock
1 tsp fresh thyme (or ½ tsp dried)
¼ cup Gruyère or Swiss cheese, grated
    Salt & pepper to taste
1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

    Instructions:

Preheat the Oven: Heat to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Caramelize the Onions: In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions + salt, and cook for 15-20 minutes until deep golden brown. Stir in beef stock + thyme, simmer until reduced, then remove from heat.
Prep the Pastry: Roll out puff pastry, place on the baking sheet, and lightly score a 1-inch border around the edges.
Assemble: Spread caramelized onions over the pastry (avoiding the edges), then sprinkle with grated Gruyère cheese.
Egg Wash & Bake: Brush the edges with egg wash and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden & puffed.
Serve & Enjoy: Let cool slightly, slice, and serve warm!

Pro Tip: Serve with a side of balsamic glaze or a fresh arugula salad for a gourmet touch!

    Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Golden, crispy, and buttery puff pastry
Rich, caramelized onions for deep flavor
Melty Gruyère cheese for a cheesy finish
Easy to make yet elegant enough for special occasions
