Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup unsalted butter (softened)
1 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups milk
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup cornstarch
4 large egg yolks
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup heavy cream
1 cup dark chocolate (chopped)
Instructions:
Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
Prepare the Cake Base: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, ½ cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool completely.
Make the Custard Layer: In a saucepan, heat 2 cups of milk and ½ cup sugar until just about to boil. Meanwhile, whisk cornstarch and egg yolks in a separate bowl until smooth. Slowly add the hot milk mixture while whisking constantly. Return the mixture to the pan and cook on medium heat until thickened. Stir in the butter and vanilla extract. Spread the custard evenly over the cooled cake layer and refrigerate until firm.
Prepare the Ganache: Heat 1 cup heavy cream in a small saucepan until it simmers. Remove from heat and pour it over the chopped dark chocolate. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes before whisking until smooth.
Assemble the Dessert Bars: Once the custard has set, pour the chocolate ganache over the top. Spread it evenly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the ganache to firm.
Serve and Enjoy: Cut into squares and enjoy the decadent layers of cake, creamy custard, and chocolate ganache in these show-stopping dessert bars! Perfect for any gathering or special occasion.
