Ingredients:
For the Salisbury Steaks
2 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
½ cup Panko bread crumbs
⅓ cup yellow onion, peeled and diced
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Onion Gravy
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups beef broth
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons ketchup
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:
Prepare the Salisbury Steaks
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Panko bread crumbs, diced onions, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands.
2. Shape the mixture into six oval patties, approximately 6 ounces each.
Cook the Patties
3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
4. Cook the patties in the skillet until both sides are browned and the centers are no longer pink. You may need to work in batches based on your skillet size.
5. Remove the cooked patties and set them aside on a plate.
Make the Onion Gravy
6. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and the sliced onions.
7. Cook for about 10 minutes, then increase the heat to medium-high to caramelize the onions. Once caramelized, transfer them to a plate or bowl.
8. In a separate bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and flour until smooth.
9. Pour the broth mixture into the skillet, stirring until the gravy begins to thicken.
Bring It All Together
10. Return the cooked beef patties and caramelized onions to the skillet. Spoon the rich gravy over the steaks.
11. Let everything simmer together for 10 minutes to soak up the flavors.
Serve and Garnish
12. Sprinkle fresh parsley over the top for a pop of color and flavor. Serve warm with mashed potatoes, rice, or roasted vegetables.
