Chinese Sweet and Sour Sauce Recipe:
Ingredients:
– 1/2 cup water
– 1/3 cup white vinegar
– 1/2 cup granulated sugar
– 3 tablespoons ketchup
– 1 tablespoon soy sauce
– 1 teaspoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water (cornstarch slurry)
– Optional: Pineapple juice, minced ginger, or minced garlic for extra flavor
Instructions:
1. In a saucepan, combine water, white vinegar, sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce. Optionally, add pineapple juice, ginger, or garlic for added flavor. Stir well.
2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
3. Slowly pour in the cornstarch slurry while stirring continuously until the sauce thickens, about 1-2 minutes.
4. If needed, adjust the sauce’s consistency by adding more water or pineapple juice if too thick, or more cornstarch slurry if too thin.
5. Remove from heat and let the sauce cool slightly before serving.
6. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
