    Chinese Beef and Onion Stir

     

    This savory Chinese beef stir-fry is packed with tender slices of beef, caramelized onions, and aromatic garlic, all tossed in a rich, umami-packed sauce. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner and pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or noodles!

    Ingredients:

    1 pound (450g) beef (flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
    1 large onion, sliced
    2 cloves garlic, minced
    2 tablespoons soy sauce (for deep umami flavor)
    1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for extra richness)
    1 tablespoon cornstarch (for tender, juicy beef)
    2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
    Salt and pepper to taste
    Optional: Sliced green onions for garnish

    Instructions:

    Marinate the Beef
    In a bowl, coat the sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and cornstarch.
    Let it sit for 15 minutes to tenderize and absorb the flavors.

    Sear the Beef
    Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a hot wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
    Add the beef in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned.
    Remove from the pan and set aside.

    Stir-Fry the Onion & Garlic
    Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil to the pan.
    Toss in the sliced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.
    Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.

    Combine Everything
    Return the cooked beef to the pan.
    Stir-fry everything together for another 1-2 minutes until heated through.
    Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Garnish & Serve
    Sprinkle with fresh green onions for extra flavor.
    Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
