    Cheesy Broccoli and Cauliflower Gratin

     

    This Cheesy Broccoli and Cauliflower Gratin is a rich and creamy side dish perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings. Roasted broccoli and cauliflower are coated in a luscious cheese sauce and topped with crispy breadcrumbs and Parmesan. The combination of textures and flavors creates a dish that’s both indulgent and comforting. Easy to make and packed with nutrients, it’s a great way to elevate your vegetable game. Garnished with fresh parsley, it’s as visually appealing as it is delicious!

    Ingredients:

    1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets

    1 large head of cauliflower, cut into florets

    2 tbsp olive oil

    Salt and pepper to taste

    3 tbsp butter

    3 cloves garlic, minced

    3 tbsp all-purpose flour

    2 cups milk

    1 cup heavy cream

    2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, gruyère, or a blend)

    1/2 tsp nutmeg

    1 cup breadcrumbs

    1/2 cup grated Parmesan

    Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

    Instructions:

    Step 1: Preheat the Oven

    Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Grease a large baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.

    Step 2: Roast the Vegetables

    Toss the broccoli and cauliflower florets with olive oil, salt, and pepper.

    Spread them evenly on a baking sheet.

    Roast in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, until tender and slightly golden.

    Step 3: Make the Cheese Sauce

    1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

    2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, until fragrant.

    3. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, ensuring no raw flour taste.

    4. Gradually pour in the milk and heavy cream, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.

    5. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until thickened (about 5 minutes).

    6. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheese and nutmeg. Mix until smooth.

    Step 4: Assemble the Gratin

    Transfer the roasted broccoli and cauliflower into the prepared baking dish.

    Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the vegetables.

    Step 5: Add the Crispy Topping

    In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and Parmesan cheese.

    Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the gratin.

    Step 6: Bake the Gratin

    Bake in the oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp.

    Step 7: Serve and Enjoy

    Let the gratin cool for a few minutes before serving.

    Garnish with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color and flavor.
