    Authentic Greek Chicken Gyros Recipe

     

     

    This Greek Chicken Gyros recipe brings authentic Mediterranean flavors right to your table! Marinated in a zesty blend of olive oil, honey Dijon mustard, garlic, and lemon zest, the chicken is baked to tender, juicy perfection. The result is savory, aromatic gyro-style chicken that’s perfect with pita, tzatziki, and Greek salad. Ideal for a family dinner or gathering, it’s a crowd-pleaser bursting with Greek-inspired taste.     Ingredients:

    12 boneless, skinless chicken thighs (1.3 kg total)

    ⅛ cup olive oil

    2 tablespoons honey Dijon mustard

    6 garlic cloves, minced

    Zest of 2 lemons

    ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

    Dry oregano, to taste

    1 cup water or stock

    Instructions:

    1. Marinate the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine chicken thighs, olive oil, honey Dijon mustard, garlic, lemon zest, salt, and oregano. Mix well to coat the chicken thoroughly. For the most flavorful gyros, marinate for at least an hour overnight if possible.

    2. Prepare the Gyro Spit: If you have a vertical gyro spit, thread the marinated chicken thighs onto it, alternating the direction of each piece for even cooking. If not, place an onion half on a parchment-lined baking sheet and insert two wooden skewers vertically into it. Stack the chicken thighs onto the skewers.

    3. Bake the Chicken: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Pour 1 cup of water or stock around the base to keep the meat juicy. Cover the top piece of chicken with foil to prevent over-browning. Bake for 75–90 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

    4. Serve and Enjoy: Let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then slice it thinly for that authentic gyro texture. Serve with crispy Greek fries, warm pita bread, refreshing tzatziki sauce, or over a vibrant Greek salad.
